The name "Elysian Fields" derives from Greek mythology and represents a place of eternal happiness and bliss, a paradise for the souls of the heroic and virtuous.
And so it has been since 1817 (legend has it that this was the year Captain Edward Smith first visited the area and suggested the name to his dinner guests in New Orleans as he described the land he had seen). The area was home to the Caddo Indians and was then known as Big Spring Caddo Village (or Biff Springs).
Captain Smith returned some time in 1837 after Texas gained independence from Mexico in 1836, obtained land under a 2nd Class Headright Certificate (for those who came to Texas after its March 2, 1836, declaration of independence and before October1, 1837), he opened a general store, and Elysian Fields began to grow, So, Elysian Fields traces its roots back to the very genesis of Texas.
Here are some images of Elysian Fields, Texas, the community we have known and love...and....what our future looks like if we don't fight heroically NOW to protect ourselves, our homes and our children (our future heroes).

Prior to all the landfill digging, we had Bald Eagles and nests within a half mile of the site. Now gone.
